Headed into the final day of the tournament, the Mustangs faced a 12-stroke deficit but they turned that around in impressive fashion by posting a team score of three-over-par 291 on the final day. Following their first victory of the season, they competed in the Wollenberg Ram Classic where they posted a come-from-behind win. Not significantly troubled by anyone else in the field, they won by eight strokes while their final-day score of 278 was within one of the school’s all-time record. They started the month off by winning the Ron Moore Invitational, defeating 14 other teams by shooting 15-over 849. However, when the calendar turned to October, the Mustangs went into another gear. In September, they were nearly triumphant when they finished second at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic. While the month of September belonged to Hawaii, October told a different story as it was the Cal Poly Mustangs who picked up a couple of wins. The champions fired a three-day tournament score of 20-over 872. ![]() In a field of 17 teams, the Rainbow Wahine survived a close finish as they bested second-place Sacramento State by one stroke. They backed up their victory at the HPU Sharks Shootout by winning the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate a week later. The first tournament of the season was the HPU Sharks Shootout where the Rainbow Wahine won easily, sweeping the podium and recording a team score of 23-over 599 over the two-day event. The Rainbow Wahine dominated the early portion of their schedule as they were victorious in both September tournaments in which they competed. It was an impressive fall season of women’s golf for two teams in particular from the Big West Conference, the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine and the Cal Poly Mustangs. ![]()
